Last weekend I spent three out of four days photographing shows. I was booked to cover ODESZA on Friday, Minnesota and Illenium on Saturday, and my good friends in Port Harbour on Monday with Guster. Friday was also my first time shooting for This Song Slaps. I was stoked.
And then at 3PM on Friday I turned on the camera to see this...
After 20 minutes spent switching batteries, cleaning contacts, and frantically looking online, it became apparent I wasn't going to be able to fix this before the show that evening. Fortunately, I was able to scramble and rent a Canon 6D from work.
Last weekend were my first time shooting with the 6D and I am really impressed with how it handled. Even at 12,800 ISO I was getting usable images with more than manageable noise.
It was a hectic 4 days of shooting, editing, and writing, but I feel like I grew a lot as a photographer and it was incredible seeing so many great shows in such a short period of time.
Monday was also the third time I've worked with Port Harbour and I feel very luck to call them friends. I've watched their journey as artists from a small show at The Canal Club on a rainy weekday to opening for Guster at The National and can't wait to see what they do next. Guster even said they were their favorite opening act on the tour. I strongly recommend checking out their latest album here if you want to discover some new music.
Here are some photos from the weekend. I hope you enjoy them! And if you're interested, here's a link to my story on This Song Slaps.
